Reflection Journal 14

Its the final production lab of the semester and every group had to take turns to present the song which they've all worked hard on. What i've taken back from our given group presentation was that although we did time management, we didn't execute it very well. We spent a lot of our time on writing the song, focusing on the lyrics and melody but we underestimated the time spent on recording. As a result, our song was complimented but in terms of the quality and audibility, it was pretty bad. Though we knew we were doing something right with the songwriting since the song itself was complimented. Another thing I've learnt from this session was to be more critical with our feedback because in reality, the feedback or critics we receive in the future would be much more harsher. I've also reflected on how to choose my words too when it comes to giving feedback. An example would be " what you're doing is too generic". Instead of saying that, it could be ...

We just recorded our production lab song and I would say it was the most time-consuming out of all the production lab sessions we had because every member was particular about the details and every small mistake we made ended up in retake after retake. Last week's session was more focused on the lyrics and melody of the song which took a long time because we wanted to pick lyrics that delivered our intended message by using words related to it. However for this week's session, it was heavily based on the recording and trying to get a quality recording out of it. We tried all the techniques we've learnt so far in recording. One most useful tips that we've learnt is that the rehearsal towers tend to have this very reverb-isa sound echoing other the round when we tried to record so we had to make sure the speakers weren't that far apart from the phone. Firstly, we tried putting the phone near the singer's mouth as he sang through the mic and we played. Though it st...

One thing I've realised throughout every briefing is that theres always a moment of realisation at one moment. Whether its after the briefing, during the briefing, before the briefing, that moment is still there. But for that day, it two of those moments. The first came when Leon said to push yourself and your members but not to the extent where we're pushed down . He then added, "Have you been pushing yourself?" And of course many of us thought in our heads, "No". After realising this it was like a surge of electricity coursed through and made me feel more determined than usual. The second moment was when Leon was talking about what we had to do and near the end there was a slide that said " One professional quality song that you will not be ashamed to present ". Again I thought back to the past sessions when we had to present and I always had the thought back then "Maybe we could've tried this, maybe we Should've done that" and ...
