Reflection Journal 13
We just recorded our production lab song and I would say it was the most time-consuming out of all the production lab sessions we had because every member was particular about the details and every small mistake we made ended up in retake after retake. Last week's session was more focused on the lyrics and melody of the song which took a long time because we wanted to pick lyrics that delivered our intended message by using words related to it. However for this week's session, it was heavily based on the recording and trying to get a quality recording out of it. We tried all the techniques we've learnt so far in recording. One most useful tips that we've learnt is that the rehearsal towers tend to have this very reverb-isa sound echoing other the round when we tried to record so we had to make sure the speakers weren't that far apart from the phone. Firstly, we tried putting the phone near the singer's mouth as he sang through the mic and we played. Though it still sounded a bit muffled plus the singer's voice also coming through the speakers made the singer sound unclear and clashy. We then moved the recording phone in front of the speakers. Well our first thought was " its going to be SUPER loud". Though surprisingly, the quality that came out was actually one of the cleanest we've ever heard though the only problem was that overall the singer's voice was too loud. Since for majority of the song, the singer would be belting a lot, it would be hard for him to lower his volume. So we decided to put the recording phone still at the same place as the last recording, but this time facing away from the speakers. The overall result was the whole recording generally being a bit softer but just nice enough so that the singer's voice balanced out from the instruments and not to the point where he drowned them out.
