Reflection Journal 11

So for this week's Production Lab we yet again started with briefing. This time we talked about 'Metacognition'  which means ' Thinking about thinking '. I thought this word was quite interesting because firstly its not everyday I see such a word being used and secondly, because it struck up a thought in my head. " Have I ever thought about my own thoughts ?". Then I started to try it out as Leon continued on talking as he talked about a guitar track. So I thought " Okay this guitar track sounds good .".Then I proceeded to go " Why do I think that?" . It was really quite mind-blowing because finding out the rational behind our thoughts brought up a lot of clarity because answers start coming up and I go "Ohhhh, so THATS why I'm thinking like that" and I'd also find that a lot of my thoughts are influenced by the things around me, culture, experiences, etc. Then we went to ' Correlation is not Causation " which...

Its home-based learning for production lab. To start off the day we had to tune in to Tom's session in Facebook and he gives a lot of helpful advices when it came to our production lab songs because he talked about things like balance, the melody, the arrangement of the song, and songwriting and also the theme of the song. Not to mention the fact that he gave tips on singing too because people started to ask about singing tips. Then it came to questions about the use of the metronome and there was a question asked "Is the click of the metronome something we have to get used to or something we have to naturally "click" with?" to which he answered that the metronome and its click is something we have to get used to, especially if that person is using the click for the first time. Though there are some exceptions where the individual is naturally inclined or one with the metronome. It then comes to the project and the commenting on the pieces given. I realise th...

The way this week starts off is the same way it starts off every week and thats with a briefing by Leon and Roger. Out of the whole briefing, the one point that caught my eye and my absolute attention was the part about defining a great song. The reason for this was because I never really looked at it from the perspective which they've opened our minds too nor has the thought ever crossed my mind. To sum up what was said, a monkey no matter how much you dress up or pamper, is still a monkey. This relates to music because a song no matter how many parts are added or what effects were used, is still a song. This too applies to the creation of a good song; A good song, even just with simple mixing or effects, or with heavy effects and mixing, will still be a good song, even without them. A good song could simply be played on just one acoustic guitar and it'd still be good. Then Leon proceeds to relate this to another realistic situation. He said that we should never use all these ...

Its the first production lab for the term and I have to say that i'm excited for what we were about to do for this session. We started it off by talking about a subject which we once covered during one of the production lab sessions.  What is Art? We spent some time pondering about what art was and whether what we were doing was considered art. Many creative answers came up which evoked some thought. Then the subject of Useless Vs. Meaningful came up to give us food for thought. Things like " A song can be meaningful to us but is it useful in our everyday life?". It made me see what we were doing from a different perspective and the realism of the situation.  Right after the briefing, we proceeded to go towards the activity part where we had to replay a song that we made or created but this time with a member playing the role of a producer and also the use of a metronome/click. My group recorded several version of the song while we took turns to take the prod...
