Reflection Journal 8
Its the first production lab for the term and I have to say that i'm excited for what we were about to do for this session. We started it off by talking about a subject which we once covered during one of the production lab sessions.
What is Art?
We spent some time pondering about what art was and whether what we were doing was considered art. Many creative answers came up which evoked some thought. Then the subject of Useless Vs. Meaningful came up to give us food for thought. Things like " A song can be meaningful to us but is it useful in our everyday life?". It made me see what we were doing from a different perspective and the realism of the situation.
Right after the briefing, we proceeded to go towards the activity part where we had to replay a song that we made or created but this time with a member playing the role of a producer and also the use of a metronome/click. My group recorded several version of the song while we took turns to take the producer and the click. I noticed something about the click/metronome though, it was actually pretty hard to maintain the tempo because there were times where it felt as if the metronome/click suddenly became faster or slower when in reality it was just our perception of the tempo being wrong. It definitely took each of us plenty of time to get used to using a click and I have to admit, it felt as though the essence of the song wasn't there anymore because i'd be more focused on maintaining tempo instead of the mood of the song.
For the role of the producer, each of us took the mantle quite seriously and produced a version that was to our preference and liking. Though because of the click/metronome we had to re-take a lot. In the end, our group managed to choose a version that each of us could agree with.
