Reflection Journal 6

Well week 5 of production lab is here! Though before the lesson could begin, Leon gave us a talk about our progress in the production lab and lets just say its not one of his usual talks. The talk he gave to us really hit us hard, at least it hit ME hard. The realisation from what he said was actually pretty true. Although the pieces that we made did matter, what matters most was our growth and what we learnt throughout the 5 weeks of production lab. Most of the pieces we made were within my comfort zone, and for the pieces that weren't, it wasn't to the point where I was feeling too uncomfortable. I thought to myself my weaknesses and what I wasn't comfortable with, and things like instrumentals, cultural music etc etc came to my mind. And I started having regrets because I had the chance to work on music like that but I missed it. So after that talk it really gave me something similar to that of a wake up call and it got me thinking. It got me determined to step out of ...

Reflection Journal 5

I've submitted the week 4 recording and I have to say that this mission is one or my favourites because not only were there a lot of memorable moments, there also was this sense of accomplishment which made me feel really proud of myself. Also, it gave me a peek of what working as a producer was like and learning how to organise the people I 'hire'. It was actually pretty hard because we had to find time to meet up and do the recording, and at the end of the whole thing, I was only able to get like 2 people because of how busy everyone else was. I did underestimate the amount of time that was given to me because on the day the mission was given to us, we had PLENTY of time because majority of the people went home and all the studios were open to us. But I guess for the remaining few which still stayed in school, we were stunned and confused on what we wanted to do. So for the 4 hours we had that day , we just sat around jamming with the instruments we had and randomly singi...

Reflection Journal 4

Mission 4 has begun and everyone is excited for whats about to come. So we went through the briefing as per usual to guide us in whatever it was we had to do next and sure enough instructions were given. The instructions were to rewrite or edit a song that we have made in the last 3 weeks and submit it by the next production lab session. Heres the catch though, its an INDIVIDUAL project. This means that whatever we're changing in the song we pick would be to personal preference. It didn't necessarily mean that I had to work alone however because we were still given the choice to 'hire' our friends to help us with the changes we want to make. These changes could be ideas I wasn't able to introduce back then or maybe a change in style in the way its played or perhaps even the genre of the song. Either way, it is definitely a session which we have to think about because we have to know what we want before 'hiring' fellow musicians. I had alot of ideas pop up ar...

Reflection Journal 3

The way I interpreted the video was actually through the personification of the objects in it. I thought to myself at first " Why is the plastic bag just spinning round and round endlessly?". Then I was like , "Hey, this is pretty similar to some real life situations actually" and suddenly I thought of moments in my past where such situations could relate to the one in the video. Thats when I started to feel bad because in the video there doesn't seem to be any signs of stopping, its like the the plastic bag has no choice but to just go with the flow of the wind endlessly, like a restriction of freedom. And usually when I think of the word 'freedom', the common character that pops into my head are teenagers or maybe young children, and how there may be some adults or those of higher power/authority controlling their future without letting them have a say in their own. At this point, I let my personification run free and let my mind run; the plastic bag c...
