Reflection Journal 5

I've submitted the week 4 recording and I have to say that this mission is one or my favourites because not only were there a lot of memorable moments, there also was this sense of accomplishment which made me feel really proud of myself. Also, it gave me a peek of what working as a producer was like and learning how to organise the people I 'hire'. It was actually pretty hard because we had to find time to meet up and do the recording, and at the end of the whole thing, I was only able to get like 2 people because of how busy everyone else was. I did underestimate the amount of time that was given to me because on the day the mission was given to us, we had PLENTY of time because majority of the people went home and all the studios were open to us. But I guess for the remaining few which still stayed in school, we were stunned and confused on what we wanted to do. So for the 4 hours we had that day , we just sat around jamming with the instruments we had and randomly singing songs. Yeah. A bit of regret right there. So I spent the next 3-4 days figuring out which song I wanted to do and the next 2 days organising what I wanted to change in the song before eventually doing the recording on the production lab period. I ended up changing the style of the song to something that was more acoustic and slowing it down so that the song was a bit slower and putting in 1 guitar only instead of having 2. Originally I wanted to use the loop pedal, but after recording it, I thought it sounded too similar to the original recording so I decided to scrap the idea. I realised that a lot of the additions I made were trial and error and just listening to the recording and evaluating whether I like it or not. Then there was also playing the role of the musician being 'hired' and having to hear the instructions of the 'producer' . It was pretty straightforward the instructions given, though a few parts were a bit demanding cause they would be outside of my ability but we still manage to come to a consensus by working together with the 'producer'. I enjoy both the roles because they each have their own unique traits like producer is more towards the organisation of the ideas and working with musicians in order to produce the idea and musicians are more towards helping the producer and also contributing ideas to potentially improve the song piece. Anyways, I feel this week's session was more towards giving use the experience of a producer and musicians as compared to the last few weeks of songwriting. It is definitely a valuable experience and something I will look back upon in the future to help me.
