Reflective Journal 16

We came to the presentation eager to hear everyone's recordings and one thing I knew from the very first presentation was that the reviews that Tim and Leon were going to give were going to be straightforward and honest. Sure enough when Don came up, he was told that he was too reliant on the Logic Pro software and that he should be focused on recording a raw good recording. Right after that, we proceeded to the person up next and we focused in on the melody and the lyrics which were the bread and butter of a song. The foundation. The lyrics that were shown by each person definitely brought out their intended message but in this case it was a matter of the arrangement or even choice of words. One factor we zoomed in on was the use of ' Rhyme'. Leon stated that the use of rhyming is a powerful tool to use because of its ability to evoke emotion and way of delivering a message. After this session, I decided to go home and edit the song and changed some lyrics.

Well week 5 of production lab is here! Though before the lesson could begin, Leon gave us a talk about our progress in the production lab and lets just say its not one of his usual talks. The talk he gave to us really hit us hard, at least it hit ME hard. The realisation from what he said was actually pretty true. Although the pieces that we made did matter, what matters most was our growth and what we learnt throughout the 5 weeks of production lab. Most of the pieces we made were within my comfort zone, and for the pieces that weren't, it wasn't to the point where I was feeling too uncomfortable. I thought to myself my weaknesses and what I wasn't comfortable with, and things like instrumentals, cultural music etc etc came to my mind. And I started having regrets because I had the chance to work on music like that but I missed it. Reflection Journal 2

So far this has been my favourite session in the production lab because the briefing we had was really funny but at the same time very enriching. Yet again production lab had me questioning on what "Beauty" was and how it relates to our potential future careers.When it came to the mission, I was wondering how the pieces that inspired us or has had an impact in our lives which we found "beautiful" were suppose to help us do the project. So when it came to sharing it with my group, I was rather skeptical. But then i realised that the things we were sharing with one another all had a common theme to them, which was that all 3 of us were scared to take the risk of pursuing a music-related career but these pieces inspired us to pursue them. When we realised this, we felt really happy because its something that all of us could relate to and we used that relatable experience to write a song that expressed how we feel about the paths we've chosen.
