Production Reflection Final Entry

The final entry. Overall, I've learnt so many things from production lab alone. From recording with just an iPhone to have studio recording sessions. From creating songs to creating ideas. Techniques and tips given by the lecturers were very helpful. Things like Inspiration  and songwriting techniques are all that I'll keep in mind. Though sadly the part with the time management still hasn't kicked in , I hope I learn that eventually cause I've learnt a super valuable lesson with the last recording. I think so far what I've learnt is most important is learning the role of a 'Producer'. We spent a lot of sessions on this and also we've learnt through experience whats its like to be one time and time again. This experience I'll surely remember in order to help me in the future.

I'm screwed. I misjudged my schedule. I was suppose to record one week before the deadline but I ended up recording only a day before the actual deadline. Worse off, I haven't completed the song. Theres this one part that irritates me every time it comes through and I ended up dragging on and on. I manage to complete it in the end but overall I only had 2 instruments and 1 vocal track, not only that, the instruments are all DI. I'm banging myself over for not doing this earlier but at the same time   I'm not willing to compromise the song at all. Although altogether, it sounds pretty well off in just 2 instrument tracks, it could've been better. Well I'll accept what I've done and we'll see how it goes!

I'm mostly just helping out my fellow classmates, whether its recording or writing lyrics. I don't know why but I'm having this huge mental block. I'm leaning to do my old song but whenever I try to record it, I lose all total motivation. Maybe cause I played it too much? Or am I just looking for excuses to procrastinate? I floated around recording sessions which I've been asked to help with, to see if theres anything anywhere that could help motivate me. Motivation. At this point of time, its motivation that I am looking for. I can tell I'm slowly burning out too. Then, I heard someone playing a new song released by a Korean artist and on the spot, I received inspiration and decided to lean towards making a whole new song.

Its the final demo and surprisingly, no restrictions on amount of tracks except for the effects but other than that, our creativity is allowed to flow. Not only that, we're allowed to make a new song or to improve upon the last recording demo. Most likely I'm going to just work on my past song and just try to see if theres any more changes or improvements I can make. We'll see in time. But from what I see, a lot of schedules are conflicting; Exams, Tests, recordings. I hope I don't burn out by then.

I've barely managed to finish my Demo 4 and boy were the rooms all filled up a week before demo 4 started. Barely managed to book one myself so gotta keep check of that. I picked up one for myself and managed to record the keyboard and bass. The guitar I was able to record at home through DI so thats lucky for me. I managed to finish Raizel too who was super kind cause although she was packed, she still agreed to record for me. All thats left is for me to balance out all the tracks. I've made it a habit to mix with the speakers in the classroom cause it really sounds different as compared to using the headphones.

Production Lab still goes and we were given our assignments for the HBL week. Production of someone else's song where we'll be able to either do a remake of the song or to try to replicate. But we're specially given the right to automate. Why's this super duper good? Cause automation is kinda like a mini-compression thingamajig, just a lot of work as compared to a normal compression. At least for now the automation is for the volume cause no panning yet! Sadly I missed the session on automation but thank goodness I listened in Sync1.
